Do Now: Discuss with your partner the safety percautions we should be aware of before we do our hot plate phase change lab.
Discussion on Lab Safety Expectations
Lab: Phase Change
Students will obtain a sample of ice, record mass, and place it on hot plate.
Students will record time, temperature, and observations every 30 secs for 25 minutes.
Homework Questions:
1. How much ice (in grams) did you start with?
2. How many grams of H2O was your group able to evaporate?
3. How long did it take to lose that amount of H2O? (Is it better to base time once ice has entirely melted?)
4. At which time/temp did your H2O begin boiling?
At which point (time/temp) did your group observe...
5. no more ice in beaker?
6. evaporation (boiling/steam)?
7. bubbles?
