Temperature and Density Day

We created diagrams in our notebooks for our understanding of...

1. How hot air balloons work
2. Aquarium Demo
3. Lava Lamps

Hot air balloons...
1. Air inside of balloon is the same temp/density as the air outside.
2. In order for balloon to rise, the density has to be less than the air outside.
3. To make the above occur, heat is added to cause the air inside balloon to expand and push the balloon out (Volume increase...mass remains the same).
4. The balloon will rise with the hot less dense air inside.
5. To come down, the heat is decreased, allowing the air inside to cool slightly.
6. This brings the density of the balloon closer to the outside air and it slowly starts to descend.

Aquarium Demo...see picture.

Lava Lamp...info will be up on the next post.
