Feb 25th/26th

Today in class I introduced the students to the project that they will be doing for this unit.

To keep it simple...it is a research project. The end product will be a six sided box (most use a shoe box), but any box or cube will work. There will be specific research on each of the six sides of the box.

1. Object
2. History of the Object
3. Major Materials
4. Why the Materials were chosen.
5. Origin of one of the materials.
6. Bibliography

This project can be done with a partner or solo. I informed the students that there are pros and cons of working with a partner and I expect them to make the best decision for their success. The project will be due in a month, and each week, there will be a deadline for them to share with me where they are in the process.

There is also a oral presentation at the final deadline, in which the students will stand before their class and share with us what they have learned from the project.

A rubric will be coming out next week. No one should start working on research and/or the box until next week (once they have been given the green light by me as to whether or not their project is a good choice.)

Object needs to be manufactured and SIMPLE. Good objects would be a pencil, pen, specific sporting equipment, etc. Bad objects would be computers, iPads, phones, PS3 because they are very complex and research will consist of terminology that students in the past have had difficult explaining, which is a major part of their grade.

SO KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!

More to come!

Also, Permission slips due March 8th! You have another week and a half.
