1/22 and 23

So now that Midterms are over...AND...the second Marking Period is behind us...we are back to some sense of normalcy.

Over the final week of the 2nd MP, we continued our investigation of Density and tried to understand the phases from a particle perspective. I gave the students two diagrams on the particle model. We are trying to conceptualize what is going on inside the solids, liquids, and gases.

Solids...made of particles that are...
1. Very low in temperature
2. Very low in energy
3. Very close together
4. Only move in a vibrating or shaking motion.

Solids have a definite shape. The shape of a solid will remain unless a force is added.

Liquids...made of particles that are...
1. Medium in temperature
2. Medium in energy
3. Have some space between them
4. Move in a back and forth motion.

Liquids take the shape of their container.

Gases...are made of particles that are...
1. High in temperature
2. High in energy
3. Spread out as far from each other in ALL DIRECTIONS.

Gases also take the shape of their container.

In today's class, we will continue practicing calculating the density of solids and liquids. We will take those calculations and determine where the substances would sit if placed into a graduated cylinder.

Grades are not finalized at the moment...I still have some papers to enter into the gradebook for the 2nd MP. I should have them finished by the end of Tuesday...thanks for your patience.
