October 1st/2nd

Agenda:

Do Now: Describe a real life scenario that uses a pulley system.
Hand back Quizzes
Continue Pulley Diagrams
Pulley Lab

We discussed various pulley systems that exist in real life. We talked about what type they were (SF, SM, SF/SM Up, or SF/SM Down). The students realized that single fixed tend to be the more common.

Next, we finished our diagrams of the four systems in our notebooks.

We spent a large portion of the class doing the lab. The students measured the effort force of each pulley system using a spring scale. The goal was to lift a 2.4 N load. After that, the students measured the effort distance...or how far they had to pull the string to get the load to rise 5cm. Finally, we calculated the energy needed to lift the 2.4N load 5cm.

HOMEWORK TONIGHT: To graph our data. The Title should be pulley lab. The X axis is the type of pulley system, while the Y axis is Energy. Please make sure your graph covers at least half of the available workspace (Spread out the values on the axis). THIS IS A BAR GRAPH AND IT SHOULD BE COLORED! I would also try to make each bar at least 2 blocks thick...you only have four systems, so you have plenty of room!

Pictures to come later...

Naylor's birthday is on Wednesday! The big 34!
